Jogani Originals: 4.45ct Colombian Emerald Ring

Fresh off the bench, the newest addition to the Jogani original collection exemplifies the Jogani mission: to rediscover the finest antique gemstones and propel them into the modern age with architectural handmade designs, paying tribute to their natural crystalline structure.

The centerpiece of this ring is an incredibly unique 4.45ct old mine Muzo emerald with insignificant treatment. Muzo emeralds originate from mines in the Muzo region of the Colombian Andes where icy cloud-sweeping cliffs meet tropical forests — a unique recipe that results in the highest quality emeralds in the world. This stone was found in a very fine Art Deco piece, but was likely cut much earlier. In contrast to the modern weight saving cuts we so often see today, the deep corners and flat shape of this stone reflects a skilled cutter’s desire to highlight the pure vivid green and natural flat crystalline structure of the material.

Once the stone was found, bringing the design it inspired to life was a unique challenge in collaboration with a master craftsman. Two perfectly matching side stones were meticulously sourced and painstakingly wrapped with the center stone in a single shared bezel — a nearly impossible task for delicate emerald material. The 18k yellow gold bezel was then cold riveted to the blackened silver shank to protect the precious emeralds and add a sleek architectural element. The result is a testament to old school artisanal craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic — classic with an edge.
